SPOT investigates whether digital imagery is consistent with physical camera capture. It draws on research into image formation and sensor pattern noise, including published work on synthetic media.
SPOT has progressed through foundational research, prototype development and experimental evaluation. The next stage is representative operational evaluation, informed by the settings in which image-origin information would be used.
The next research questions
Operational users can help identify useful decision points and reporting needs. Integration partners can help define how a capability would fit into existing workflows. Independent evaluators and research partners can support testing under representative conditions.
These steps are part of establishing requirements and evaluating practical use. They do not establish that the prototype is already validated for every operational setting.
